In 1936, he took on a monumental role as the first Chair of the Board of Trustees. During this critical period of growth, Rawson provided the steady leadership and strategic vision necessary to ensure that Eva Edwards Lovett’s dream of a premier educational environment would flourish for generations to come.

Rawson’s commitment to Lovett was an extension of a life defined by professional success and public service.

A native of Macon, Georgia, he achieved a rare "dual" graduate status by holding degrees from both Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia. His professional career was equally distinguished; in 1932, he founded Charles A. Rawson and Associates, which became a prominent advertising and public relations firm in Atlanta. He also served his country with honor as a Captain in the 151st Machine Gun Battalion of the famed 42nd (Rainbow) Division during World War I.

Beyond the gates of Lovett, Rawson was a titan of the Atlanta community, serving as a past president of the Atlanta Board of Education, the Atlanta Kiwanis Club, the Capital City Club, and the UGA Alumni Association. When he passed away in 1972 at the age of 81, he left behind a legacy of integrity and civic pride. His belief in the power of education and his tireless work as our first Board Chair remain at the very heart of our community.
