She grew up in Atlanta, where she graduated from the Girls’ High School. She continued her education at Randolph Macon Woman’s College from 1918 to 1922, majoring in French and dramatics.

Following her college graduation, Evelyn toured the eastern United States, performing interpretive dance and dramatic readings. In 1927, she transitioned into education, becoming the teacher for the newly added 4th grade at The Lovett School.  She also opened the Evelyn Lovett’s School of Dancing.

In 1929, she married Joseph W. Kling, and the couple had a son, Joseph Edwards Kling, in 1930. After a brief period away from the classroom, she returned to teaching around 1932. She remained a teacher at Lovett through the 1936–1937 school year, when she was forced to leave due to illness.

Evelyn passed away at the age of 35 on June 22, 1938, at Emory University Hospital from acute pulmonary edema. She was buried at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, with an additional headstone placed in her family’s plot in the Marshallville City Cemetery next to her father.

Her legacy continues through the Evelyn Lovett Kling Fund, established in February 2000 as part of The Lovett School’s endowment. Created with a $120,000 gift from the Joseph W. Kling Trust, the fund provides merit-based scholarship awards to both boys and girls.
